Day 6 – The £13 Chicken & Chips

Today was a day of pushing the boundaries. We are skiing well now and the only falls come when we get too adventurous. Mario ‘the Eagle’ Candido has been experimenting with ski jumps. Here is a little video of his talents:

Having eaten far too many kebabs this week we thought we would try the canteen style restaurant next to the gondola. I nearly fell over when my sausage & chips came to £11 and Mario’s chicken & chips cost £13 (27 Lev). I would give this place a wide berth if you are coming to Bansko. The food was cold and ridiculously overpriced.

There has been no new snow for several days and what is laying on the ground has started to melt. Up on the slopes the conditions are quite icy. That is good when you want to go fast on a gentle run but makes it tricky to navigate steep and busy sections. If it doesn’t snow again soon then people arriving this weekend will have poor conditions.

Today I discovered somewhere new – run 9A. It looked scary from the top but Mario convinced me to go down. After seeing him fall I thought I’d take a different route – which turned out to be a big mistake. I ended up on unchartered snow near to a load of trees and a steep drop. I was stranded for a while trying to turn around so I wouldn’t go shooting off into the bushes. Thankfully I made it down the bumpy slope in one piece but I don’t think I’ll be doing it again.

Tomorrow is our last day of skiing so we intend to make the most of it. Mario picked up a bit of a knee injury on his jump in the video above but I’m sure he won’t go on about it all day…

This evening we are going to an Italian restaurant. I’ll report back on that tomorrow.

FYI my head is still swollen!
